Kaltimtoday.co - In a significant move towards boosting the electric vehicle sector, Hong Kong-based CBL Limited is set to establish a battery manufacturing facility in Indonesia. This initiative is a collaboration with the state-owned Indonesian company, PT Aneka Tambang Tbk (Antam).

Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, Indonesia's Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment, highlighted the groundbreaking nature of this partnership. It's a global first, encompassing the complete process from nickel mining to the establishment of a giga-factory for battery cells and packs, as well as recycling operations.

Luhut, in a statement made in Jakarta on Thursday (28/12/2023), expressed his congratulations to Antam, CBL, and IBC for this pioneering investment in the lithium battery ecosystem's supply chain.

"This is a world first, spanning from nickel mining to a giga-factory for battery cells and packs, and recycling. This addresses the question of downstream processing, where there is still much to be done here," he stated.

He emphasized the urgency of efficient and swift project execution to stay competitive globally. Additionally, Luhut asserted the importance of adhering to high environmental and labor standards in project execution.

"We must be transparent with digitalization, and this project's execution should set the standard for similar future projects," he added.

Luhut also welcomed criticism regarding environmental issues and committed to continuous improvements, including enhancing operational procedures and standards. He stressed the importance of training local employees in high-tech processes.

"We need to progressively focus on high-quality environmental and labor standards. Let's agree that officials involved should be transparent, positioning Indonesia as a model for advanced and transparent nations," Luhut firmly stated.

Meanwhile, Bahlil Lahadalia, Indonesia's Minister of Investment and Head of the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM), echoed Luhut's emphasis on implementing high environmental and labor standards.

"Congratulations to the Antam and CBL teams. Ensure proper implementation of environmental standards, workforce recruitment, and minimize potential risks," Bahlil remarked.
