Kaltimtoday.co, Jakarta - The Green Press Community event organized by the Society of Indonesian Environmental Journalists (SIEJ) on November 8-9, 2023, at the Usmar Ismail Film Center and the Hotel Harbitare Setia Budi in Jakarta, has garnered the attention of the United Nations Information Center (UNIC) in Indonesia.

Miklos Gaspar, the head of UNIC Indonesia, praised the event, noting the critical importance of journalist involvement in addressing environmental issues, especially in the face of widespread misinformation. He highlighted the challenge posed by social media platforms, where misinformation can spread rapidly and easily influence public opinion.

Gaspar emphasized the susceptibility of people to believe misinformation if they do not critically assess the information they receive, especially through social media. He encouraged SIEJ and its journalist members to counteract the spread of false information by committing to fact-based reporting.

"Your fingertips hold significant power to shape public opinion, and ensuring your information database is accurate is crucial for promoting truthful information," he stressed.

The GPC event aims to provide a platform for learning, discussion, and collaboration, involving hundreds of participants, including media professionals, NGOs, and students. It is also set to host sessions with presidential candidates Anies Baswedan, Ganjar Pranowo, and Prabowo Subianto, who will present their environmental policy frameworks in anticipation of the upcoming presidential election in Indonesia.
